Chimeneas (sometimes spelt
Chimineas - with two "i’s") were originally invented in Mexico by tribesmen as a way of cooking and baking, as well as providing heating for their family.
The long chimney kept the rain at bay and the bulbous body allows for heating and cooking.
It’s been a few years since
chimeneas made their way into the Home and Garden market and are fast becoming a regular site in gardens, backyards, and on patios.
Many are used simply as an ornamental addition to the garden, others used for extra warmth on cooler spring and early-autumn nights, while many more double as barbeques.
Originally made of clay, today,
chimeneas come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.
Clay chimeneas
are still the most popular, but you can get them made from cast iron, aluminium alloy, bronze or steel. If cared for properly
chimeneas are long-lasting and durable.
